New exhibitions for 2010 will feature ceramics, architecture, performance photographs, silver, fashion designs and accessories as well as Japanese classical theatre.
During 2010 the V&A Museum will be offering a number of special exhibitions and installations. Displays will include photographs of the performing arts by Reg Wilson, exquisite silver by Paul de Lamerie and the so-called Maynard Master, fashions and designs presented by graduates of the Royal College of Art, an exploration of classical Japanese theatre as well as contemporary architecture. All of the following displays are free of charge. Capturing the Moment – Photographs by Reg Wilson An exhibition of photographs by Reg Wilson can be found in the temporary display area of the Theatre and Performance Gallery. Wilson has been photographing the performing arts since the 1960s and his work reveals every stage of the performance process . The exhibition will remain open until 10th January 2010. Future Fashion Now– New Design from the Royal College of Art This exhibition features more than 50 outfits and accessories designed by MA graduates of the Royal College of Art. Items on display include knitwear, millinery, footwear and a leopard print suit. The show explores the design process from preliminary sketches to the finished garment. The exhibition will be open until 31st January 2010. Elegant Accomplishments – The Art of Noh Performance An exhibition in the Toshiba Gallery explores Noh, one of the oldest forms of Japanese theatre. Noh developed in the 14th Century and incorporated the Zen principles of understatement, economy of movement and minimal expression. The show features both traditional and contemporary prints and masks together with robes, accessories and graphic works from the V&A's collection. The display will be on view until 7th March 2010. An 18th-Century Enigma – Paul de Lamerie and the Maynard Master This exhibition, located in the V&A's world-class silver galleries, looks at the intricate craftsmanship of Paul de Lamerie (1688-1751), one of the finest English silversmiths working in the 18th century. The show also explores de Lamerie's most skilled craftsman whose identity remains a mystery. Known only as the Maynard Master, he was active from 1737 to 1745 and created one of the most beautiful pieces in the collection, the magnificent Maynard Dish (London, ca. 1737). The show will remain open until 9th May 2010. Contemporary ArchitectureThis is an experimental exhibition which will be located in the porter Gallery and throughout the museum. A number of international architects have been asked to build a series of structures throughout the V&A reflecting the theme 'retreat'. The aim is to explain architecture by giving visitors the chance to step inside the structures and experience them for themselves, rather than explaining them in the traditional way through drawings and models. This exhibition will be on view from 8th June to 30th August 2010. Richard Slee: New WorkThe V&A has a number of works by British ceramist Richard Slee. Slee's primary medium is clay but he increasingly uses other materials, including ready-made items reflecting contemporary consumerism. Slee will create a number of new works specifically for the V&A's exhibition which will run from June 2010 to March 2011. Further details of all the above displays, related events and publications, can be obtained from the V&A Museum.
